
In-Home Residential Habilitation is assistance provided to an individual, primarily in the home, to help develop skills that will increase independence. The service is geared toward an individual's abilities and can be used to help a person stay in their family home, move to a supportive apartment, or live independently in the community. Staff work with each person to teach skills such as money management, scheduling medical appointments, cooking and comparison shopping.
Day Habilitation is an individualized service provided for individuals or groups of two or three people. This service takes place primarily in the community to teach skills such as social networking, pursuing recreational interests and how to become involved in the community.
CHANCES Autism Support: CHANCES supports families with children from birth to 18 years old who have autism or an autism spectrum disorder.
Guardianship: Guidance is available to families who wish to file a petition through the Surrogate's Court for guardianship on behalf of an individual with a developmental disability. Primary and standby guardianships held by NYSARC, Inc. are overseen by a Guardianship Committee. Current information is available for financial and life planning such as wills, estate planning, supplemental needs trusts, competency determination and medical consent.
Respite: Supervised in-home care is available at no cost to families. Respite can be scheduled regularly or for special events or crisis. Families may choose their own respite provider and may be eligible for full or partial reimbursement. Families can receive assistance with reimbursement for out-of-home overnight respite.
Financial Assistance: Individual Support Services will provide a monthly subsidy to assist a person who is living independently. Family Reimbursement can be used periodically by families to provide relief from specific added expenses.
Consumer Directed Personal Assistance: CDPA is an in-home care program which allows individuals of any age who require assistance with their personal care to hire and train an attendant of their choice. CDPA is a Medicaid-funded program that often serves as an alternative to long-term care or nursing home placement.
